Program Highlights


Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness


A traveling exhibition created by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM),

Native Voices was displayed at the NLM headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland,

from 2011 to 2015.  Through a partnership with the American Library Association

(ALA), the exhibition is now traveling to libraries throughout the United States,

and will be on display at the Alpine Library throughout the month of April.  The

Alpine Library is thrilled to bring the exhibition to our community and to hope-

fully broaden people’s perspectives about this fascinating topic.


  • April 13, 3:30 to 4 pm
    The San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum will bring their mobile exhibit
    on Kumeyaay culture for kids to explore.

  • April 19 at 6 pm
    Our People. Our Culture. Our History
    A documentary about the Sycuan band of the Kumeyaay Nation, with a
    panel discussion afterwards with tribal members.

  • April 26 at 6 pm
    A talk by Kenneth Cohen, author of Honoring the Medicine: The Essential
    Guide to Native American Healing
